The Artistic Creation
In the Bible, It is written « God created
the man to his image, He created him to the image of God, He created the man
and the woman » Genesis, Ch 1. In general, the creation has a original
relationship with a religious topic.
Over many decades, the utilization of this word was directly connected to God,
to symbolize the process which allows Him to give an existence to the humanity
and to all things on this planet. Already during the Antiquity, Greeks gave a
special attention to the « fureur divine », « divine fury »,
which seems possesed by the poet when i was creating. During the XVI° s, a religious worth was attributed to
the artist. The beauty of his art pieces revealed something superhuman, a power
given by God. It’s difficult to explain precisely what his artistic creativity
was trying to explain the mystery of create a piece of art.
First, « giving
birth to »/ creating an art
piece is like giving birth to a child. After, you have to educate this child to
see him blooming. In the same way, a piece of art created by an artist is
« a world » with its own autonomy, and its inside order. In 1846, Balzac
wrote , in Cousine Bette : « les grands hommes appartiennent à leurs
œuvres »/ « important men belong to their art pieces ».
They take part of the worl they create throught a painting, for example. A
painting is, as Giotto said, « a window opened on the world ». In
this contemporary era, a painting can be symbolized as a window opened on one
of the dimensions of the inside world. The creator is anyone who can accept his
part of passivity in front of the creative impulse from the essence, and who
gives the room, the time and the opportunity
to create the art piece inside himself, first. It is the manifestation
(demonstration) of the man’s possession by a force which comes from inside
himself, and by himself. Like a pregnant woman who does not know (without technology)
what the face of her baby is, the creator des not know either. The future
mother will know the physical aspect of her progeny, only when he is born. By
the way, an artist knows what he is going to do, what he wants to do, only when
he has done his piece.
Secondly, the feeling of the beauty
and the ugliness are essantial parts which precede the artistic activity. For
example, humanity has been sensitive to the beauty of a flower, of a sunset, a
sunrise, before nice paintings or beautiful sculpture existed. Of course, everyone has a sensitive part inside himself
which can react in front of an ugly or a beautiful element. However, there
exists two different kinds of beauty, a « natural » one, and an
« artistic » one. They are
independant. The natural beauty is the result of the perfect adaptation
of its form to its functions. Kant said « l’art n’est pas la
représentation d’une belle chose mais la belle représentation d’une
chose »/ « art is not the representation of a beautiful thing, but
the beautiful representation of something ». The real artistic person has
the power to create something beautiful by inspiring himself from a common,
unremarkable thing. He has the capacity to show the essence, this same essence,
everybody has inside himself. We come from the same originel source and when an artistic person
reveals this part in his art work, through the artistic creation, the artistic beauty
can be born. Of course, every artists has been inspired by the nature as the painters of the Renaissance who were more
interested about the representation of the nature. Nonetheless, only a little
part has really created a masterpiece that everyone can appreciate positively.
For example, the « Capela Sixteen » in Rome, of Michel-Angelo, causes
everybody a non-understod feeling of greatness.
The artistic creation is the
wedding of the source with the creator, the artist, and the result is an art
piece, which draws another world, as child who is born. The constant work is
the law of the art like the law of life. As a child to his parents, he brings the passivity or
the activity in front of his actions, sometimes, sadness, nonetheless, most of
the time, he brings love, joy and happiness.
